FAQs

How do I book the flight, and where are they likely to take place?

For paragliding to be safe and for the flight to be prolonged by lift been generated we need to fly on a thermic day and from a hill facing the prevailing wind and that wind needs to be relatively light.

Arranging the Flight

There are two methods to arrange the flight: If you have a voucher, you can propose a day and then reconnect with me a day or two before to confirm the likelihood of the weather being appropriate and the probable location, which depends on wind direction. The other is to monitor the webcams and forecast, and just give me a call on the off-chance. The weather requirements are quite complex, but essentially it needs to be dry with winds forecast of less than 15mph, ideally from the South-Southwest through to North.

Paragliding Locations

Due to the weather requirements for paragliding you can help your flight occur by watching the flying at Eype on this webcam https://wdlh.co.uk/dorset-webcams/highlands-end-eype/ If you do just call, I may be there or able to get there. There is also one at Bell hill which is the site near Blandford https://holfuy.com/en/data/471 with lots of data where the wind needs to be between 6-17 in the area that are green on the compass rose. Sometimes you can see people flying in the photos too. If you see people flying, and you’re available, give me a call.

These are my preferred sites to use, but I can come to Westbury if the conditions are ideal there or if we have two or more passengers booked who want to do it there. I can go further afield as well and take a larger group, but this will have to be by bespoke arrangement, so please get in touch to discuss.

Accommodation

If you are not that local, you might want to mix it with some local accommodation. My main job is managing www.northendfarmdorset.co.uk who offer a £50 discount to holders of Sky Safaris Ltd voucher.

What to Wear

On the day the passenger will need to wear long trousers, good grippy shoes that one can run in, and a windproof coat. If the passenger wants to take photos, they’ll need to be able to tie off the camera.

It would also be good to have the passenger’s mobile number to make any last minute arrangements.

If you’d like to call or email to discuss any of the above, please get in touch.

Hope to fly with you soon
Best wishes Eddie
